‘Creative health’ and ‘Arts, Health and Wellbeing’ are both terms that share common themes and are rooted in a shared fundamental understanding of the positive role creative activities have on our overall wellbeing.
The National Centre for Creative Health defines creative health as "creative approaches and activities which have benefits for our health and wellbeing." This definition highlights the multifaceted nature of creative expression, which can include art, music, dance, writing, and various other forms of creativity that contribute to our health and wellbeing.
Arts Council England elaborates on this, emphasising the vital connection between creativity and the quality of people's lives. Stating that "creative and cultural activity must be viewed by society as a fundamental part of living well." This perspective positions creative health not just as an enhancement of individual well-being but as a crucial component of a healthy society.
By integrating creative practices into health and wellbeing strategies, we can create environments where individuals can thrive, express themselves, and connect with others, ultimately leading to improved health outcomes and enriched life experiences.
